As most people will be aware, in early February of this year huge flooding in nearly 70% of the city devastated Jakarta. The AOP head office and several factories owned by the AOP Group were affected.
In the head office the parking area in Pegangsaan Dua was flooded from the 2 nd of February to the 6 th and reached nearly 40 cm in depth in front of the lobby. Although the water thankfully did not reach the office and warehouse area, the distribution of goods ground to a halt. In addition, the generator sets plunged AOP into total darkness due to the sets becoming soaked. However the building was again able to resume operations by the 7 th of February.
SKF (one of AOP's factories) was also hit by the flood on the 2 nd of February but receded by the following day. The water reached a depth of 60 cm in the yard and utility area (central coolant system). However the electricity supply was not cut and other areas like the heat treatment, grinding and assembly areas were not affected. Nonetheless, it is predicted that there will be a 20 day delay in production due to the disruption of the coolant supply and repair activities.
Another factory to feel the effects of the flooding was the AOP Nusametal Division which was flooded from the 2 nd to the 6 th like the head office with a water depth of 85 cm in the yard. Losses suffered by Nusametal included broken ingot and dross digital scales, as well as electricity being cut, which disrupted the production line. In order to push towards the target closing in January the Finance and Accounting Department moved to AOP-HO for the time being. Meanwhile the factory IGP Group were hit in the areas of the GKD plant, IGP machining plant, WEP machining plant, the powerhouses of each plant and the head office of the IGP group. The factory and office cleaning was conducted on the 5 th , followed by machinery services and cleaning materials and parts the next day.
Finally, the flood hit ASKI and the water seeped into the warehouse area despite the area barricaded with sand sack barriers. The water level inside the warehouse reached approximately 15 to 20 cm in depth and managed to dampen certain products. After the flood withdrew, a separation of wet and dry goods was conducted immediately.
The flood in Jakarta was a time period of loss for many of it's citizens as the water wrecked houses, halted all transport and forced many to evacuate their homes. To show our social awareness the AOP donated as much as possible. On the 9 th of February about 600kg of rice and 30 boxes of instant noodles were given to the public kitchen in the Kelapa Gading area for six evacuation points. The AOP also conducted health services in the Pegangsaan Dua and Tugu areas on the 14 th of February. (MKA)
