The “Green Action – Sahabat Alam (Friend of Nature)” activity, with its theme “Give life to nature, as nature gave life to us” was conducted on Wednesday, 20 th of December 2006, also the National Social Solidarity Day, in Sindang Kahuripan – Gunung Astana, Gunung Pancar, Sentul, West Java.

The activity was provided by the cooperation between “Shop&Drive” – Retail Division of PT Astra Otoparts Tbk and the Garuda Nusantara Foundation led by Hj. Ully Sigar Rusady. It was conducted to show the company's care towards our environment, especially based on our concerns on the seemingly never-ending natural disasters in our country.

Ully, receiver of Kalpataru award from the Minister of Environment in 2001, claimed that the re-plantation in the upper river area was one way to save water in the lower stream area based on the act that the water comes from the upper area. Natural conservation programs are desperately needed to avoid more natural disasters that might occur in the future. “If we exterminate nature, nature will lead us to death,” she alleged.

Mentioning her “meditation” place, Sindang Kahuripan, (meaning “life stop-over” in Sundanese), Ully claims that she loves living in the 30 hectares of conservation land that needs re-plantation to maintain the natural balance. Several species of fruits such as the guava, rambutan, belimbing wuluh and many medication plants such as ginger and kaempferiae galangal are intended not only for beautifying purposes, but also to increase the economical condition of the local people.

During the occasion, Ully gave thanks for the contribution of Astra Otoparts, the first company to show interest in her foundation and towards the reforestation program in Gunung Astana – Gunung Pancar. She is hopeful that other companies will also contribute to the program.

Meanwhile, Director Eko D. Haryanto of PT Astra Otoparts Tbk explained that the planting activity was merely a preliminary step in the company's continuous care towards the environment and anticipates that more outgoing activities like this one will be conducted, as it fits in with one of Shop&Drive's mottos: be an environmentally friendly company.
